JACKSONPORT STATE PARK September 6th , 2013 – September 15th, 2013

Enjoy your stay at Jacksonport State Park by attending a few of our scheduled activities. Discover the many wonderfully diverse qualities of Jacksonport by bringing your family, friends and yourself to any of our programs. The activities listed below are free or have a fee if stated. So visit with the park interpreters Donna and Matt to experience the park.

Friday, September 6th

6:30pm–Civil War In Songs– Campground A musical telling of the Civil War with the songs that shaped the period of strife. The program covers all the ups and downs of not just famous battles and generals but the everyday citizens that endured the Civil War’s hardship.

Saturday, September 7th

9am-12pm – Great Arkansas Clean-up – Visitor’s Center. Nature is an important part of our lives from the air we breathe, to the food we eat, and even in recreation. Let’s give back to nature today during the Great Arkansas Clean-up. You can help by picking up litter in Jacksonport State Park and the nearby town of Jacksonport. Free t-shirts for volunteers, plus a free picnic afterwards.

6:30pm– A Bowie of a Knife – Campground. Come out to Jacksonport State Park and learn about the Tunstall Bowie Knife and discover why it is named after Jacksonport founder Thomas Todd Tunstall. Also see up close pictures of the knife and hear the story of where all this storied knife has been, and the long road it took back to Jackson County.

Sunday, Septemeber 8th

2:30 pm– Coyotes– Picnic Area. Coyotes love to serenade the moon in the evening. Are they singing for fun, or is there a purpose to the evening vocalization? Meet the park interpreter to explore the unusual behaviors of the coyote.

3:30pm– Civil War Water Games– Picnic Area. Join a park interpreter at the picnic area at Jacksonport State Park to learn about Civil War formations and cannons. After learning about them kids can cool off by participating in a mock battle with water guns and balloons.

Friday, September 13th

6:30pm– Civil War Weapons– Campground – Come see a demonstration in black powdered weapons that were used in the Civil War. Join a park interpreter to learn how these weapons were used and fired and who were some of the famous Civil War fighters that used these Confederate Weapons.

Saturday, September 14th

2:30 pm– Fish ID and Techinques– Campground. A brief overview of the game fish native to the White River Area and the different techinques used to catch them.
