Ozark Foothills FilmFest Receives Mid-America Arts Alliance Performing Art Grant
The 16th annual Ozark Foothills FilmFest announces that it is among a select group of regional presenters to receive a Mid-America Arts Alliance Regional Touring Program grant. This award will support the upcoming screening of the film Yakona, with live music accompaniment by the Montopolis Chamber Ensemble from Austin, Texas. The performance will take place in Independence Hall on the campus of the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville on Saturday, April 15 at 8:00 pm. Justin Sherburn, composer of the film score will also conduct a pre-performance lecture at 7:00 pm in the same location. The lecture will focus on composing music to accompany moving images for film, television, web series, and commercial use. Admission for the screening/performance is $10; $8 for adults age 55 and over and students. The lecture is free to attend.
Yakona is an impressionistic journey down the San Marcos River as it travels from source to sea through the changing seasons. Since the documentary has no dialogue, it relies heavily on the score to convey the grandeur of the natural world it depicts.

Funding for the Mid-America Arts Alliance grant is drawn from generous underwriting by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Arkansas Arts Council, and foundations, corporations, and individuals throughout Arkansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas. Mid-America Arts Alliance, the nation’s oldest regional arts organization, was founded in 1972 to foster cultural growth in heartland communities.
