Friday, May 31, Jackson County: White River Health System is hosting a Safesitter course at the WRMC Medical Complex in Newport for children going in to grades 6 through 8 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.   Cost is free thanks to a generous sponsor but space is limited. This class is perfect for those watching younger siblings over the summer or those interested in babysitting. Contact White River Health System (870)262-6555to sign up.
First Baptist Church will have Vacation Bible School May 31 to June 2. Class on May 31 will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. June 1 class will be 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Family Day will be on June 2 from 9:15 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. For more information contact First Baptist Church Office at (870)523-6232.
Saturday, June 1, Monster Beats will feature Queen Anne’s Revenge Dueling Pianos. Sponsored by M&P Banking and M&P Insurance and Investment Services, the concert is free and fun for all ages. Show begins at 7:00 p.m. on the Terry Scoggins Memorial Stage in downtown Newport. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will move to Frankie’s Place, 306 Front Street.
The 11th Annual Delta Arts Festival will bring more than 200 artists, authors, and musicians together in Newport for a celebration of talent, skill and creativity at 11 locations downtown. Friday, June 7 and Saturday, June 8 come and look at visual art, read/listen to literary art and dance/listen to musical art. Friday, June 7, Seeing Red will be performing on the Terry Scoggins Memorial Stage at 7:00 p.m.
Wednesday, June 12, Jackson County Library will host a Traveling Planetarium inside the Newport Business Resource Center (201 Hazel Street). The first viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. and the second viewing begins at 1:00 p.m. Go inside the star-filled SkyDome planetarium to learn about the current night sky.  Hear the stories our ancestors told about the stars, learn about the Milky Way and see where the planets can be found.  Science exhibits include meteorites, rocket / aircraft models, astronaut autographs, rock and soil samples from around the world, fossils and more. Weather permitting we’ll have telescopes for safe viewing of the Sun.
The ASU-Newport Movies in the Park will be held Saturday, June 15, featuring Jumanji at dusk. Movies are held in the Front Street Park in downtown Newport. In the event of inclement weather, movies will move to the Newport, Business Resource Center, 201 Hazel Street. Concessions will be available. Free for all!
Brick Fields will be performing at the next Arkansas Steel Associates and KASU Monster Groovez Concert on Tuesday, June 18, beginning at 7:00 p.m.at the Front Street Park. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be moved to Frankie’s Place, 306 Front Street. Admission is FREE!
Tuesday, June 25, The Artist in U art workshops presented by Unity Health will have a children’s acrylic art workshop. Julie Reardon and Frankie Stovall will lead the class from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Please call the NEDC/Newport Chamber (870)523-3618 to reserve your child’s spot.
