Lyon College Convocation to feature presentation on future of rural America

BATESVILLE, Arkansas – Lyon College will continue its 2023-2024 Convocation speaker series with a presentation titled “What is the Future for Rural America?” by author and journalist Monica Potts on Thursday, Feb. 22, at 4 p.m. via Zoom videoconference in the Nucor Auditorium in the Lyon Business and Economics Building on the Lyon College campus at 2300 Highland Rd., Batesville. 

The presentation will focus on what small towns across the country can do to improve their presents and futures, especially for young women and men growing up today. It can also be accessed at lyon-edu.zoom.us/j/84485678952.

Potts is a senior politics reporter for the website FiveThirtyEight. Her previous work has appeared in The New York Times, The Atlantic and The New Republic, among other publications, and on NPR.

She is the author of the 2023 New York Times bestseller, “The Forgotten Girls: A Memoir of Friendship and Lost Promise in Rural America.”

Potts was a 2015-16 New America Fellow and is a former senior writer with The American Prospect. She lives in Clinton, Arkansas.
