Independence County Library Joins eBooks Consortium

(Batesville, AR) The Independence County Library is pleased to announce it has joined the Arkansas Digital Library Consortium (ADLC), a statewide consortium facilitated by the State Library of Arkansas. The ADLC is an open consortium formed to facilitate the acquisition and use of digital content by pooling the buying power of Arkansas public libraries. Vanessa Adams, Library Director, states that Independence County Library patrons

currently have access to approximately 2,600 eBooks titles. By joining the ADLC, patrons will have access to over 120,000 titles. “Joining the consortium will greatly benefit the people of Independence County, and it will also save the library about $8,000 each year.” In addition to the eBooks titles, Independence County Library patrons will have access to digital audio books, something the library has not been able to afford, according to Adams.
The consortium selects ten representatives from participating libraries to form a Selection Committee, which will purchase materials on behalf of the consortium. Members will serve a one-year term, and Adams will serve the first year on the committee. Independence County Library patrons will be able to access titles from the consortium beginning October 1, 2018, and should call the library at 870-793-8814 to sign up for the eBooks program if they are not currently registered, or send an email
request to: info@indcolib.com.
