Yesterday The Skillet Restaurant and Ozark Folk Center provided a most entertaining evening for some Batesvillians, among many others! As many concerts as I’ve attended there, and as many times as I have eaten at the Ozark Folk Center, this was my first time at The Skillet restaurant, and I will have a hard time ever passing up this restaurant again! If you have never eaten there you are in for a tasty, home-cooked meal in a beautiful outdoorsy and tastefully decorated restaurant you will always remember!
From the time we entered The Skillet, we were treated as valued visitors and made to feel so at home by Ms. Ruthie, our lovely young hostess. We were among the first to arrive and were seated by one of the many windows displaying our beautiful Ozark nature. Although it began to fill to capacity shortly after we arrived, we were almost immediately waited upon by Ms. Ruthie herself, who went to get a pen and paper to personally take our order. We ordered the chicken and dumplings, fried okra, ham and beans, and huge yeast rolls that were so light they could float off your plate! But then came the hot blackberry cobbler with melted butter! A dining experience most satiable to fine soul food connoisseurs such as my friend and myself.
The restaurant manager, Ms. Jennifer, also came to welcome and visit with us. She shared a picture taken earlier that day when Ricky Skaggs showed up for breakfast and graciously consented to the photo. A nice guy as well as talented as bluegrass offers anywhere, and Mountain View Ozark Folk Center is known to draw big names such as Skaggs. As we left for the Skaggs show, the overflowing restaurant was music to my ears with families laughing and talking and eating, all come together for a unique dining experience such as dreams are made of.
The Ricky Skaggs concert proved to be as entertaining as anticipated! He is known for bluegrass and he really got the grass on! His band were all awesome to watch as well as to listen to. A special treat was when he brought on his wife, Sharon, to play and sing with him. My favorite duet was “If I Needed You” a most beautiful song performed by many, but their duet was almost show-stopping it was so heartfelt by all.
