Calico Rock Museum & Visitor Center participating in the Arkansas Museums Association Annual Conference
This week, the Calico Rock Museum & Visitor Center is participating in the Arkansas Museums Association Annual Conference at Historic Washington State Park near Hope. Executive Director Gloria Sanders is serving as the Mistress of Ceremonies at the Annual Awards Dinner tomorrow night and serving in various roles throughout the conference. It is an honor and privilege to join with prestigious museums across the state to recognize the good work of preserving history, sharing art, and exploring science.
At home, the new window exhibit entitled, “Historic Main Street,” celebrates the businesses, and the people who owned and worked in those businesses, along Main Street over the years. Some of the artifacts, like a hand-pump embalming machine, are oddities while others, a hammer and cloth sack, honor specific stories. Earlene King took large cubes of ice and broke them in the cloth sack with the hammer when anyone wanted ice.
We hope you will visit the museum and the new exhibit.
Work continues on the new Art & Science Center. The Loft is ready for painting and the main floor is about 80% ready for painting. Electrical work is in full progress. To view photos of the construction progress, visit:

**If you have never visited this awesome museum, you are missing an exciting journey back into Arkansas’ rich history. I visited there several times, and I find myself wanting to stop by every time I get within any distance. They work hard at improving and adding to this family adventure. See you there, Ginger “”
