Calico Rock Commemorates World War I on May 13th!!
One hundred years ago, several young men, boys really, from Calico Rock enlisted to serve their country in the United States Army. It was a Saturday morning and they were certain to see action in the war as soon as their basic training was complete. The night before their enlistment, they had one last social at a dance. The fear, anticipation, and uncertainty was no doubt palpable as they danced with the girl of the dreams that fateful night.
This weekend the Calico Rock Museum will honor the service of the 350 men who served in World War I from Izard County. A temporary exhibit honoring these men and recognizing advances made during the war, as well as the impact of the Great War will be unveiled in the Murphy Gallery.
The public is invited to join us for this special exhibit, a time of sharing stories, and honoring their sacrifice. The World War I Commemoration will be this Saturday (May 13) from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
