C. Edward and Joyce Tudor presented original bound copies of the Calico Rock News, published for a limited time in 1960 in Calico Rock. The newspapers are a forgotten part of our history that are a wonderful treasure for the museum collection. The Tudors also presented an original painting by Sybill McGinnis which is a wonderful new addition to our art collection.
Work began on restoring the historic wall along upper Main Street this weekend. The wall is being carefully restored and repaired after decades of wear, erosion and damage. Once restored, a local artist has been commissioned to paint a new mural depicting the history of Calico Rock. The wall itself is an important artifact in the history of the community. The street originally had a wall that ran down the middle of the street and the street was called Wall Street. To prepare for the new bridge across the river, the wall was pushed back to its present location and the widened street was renamed Main Street. This past week, the museum hosted twenty-two students for our latest Summer Day Camp, Life as a Native American. To view photos and learn about upcoming day camps visit www.calicorockmuseum.com.
The community will welcome Boy Scouts Canoe Race on July 24. Join community organizations in welcoming this group to town.
