Shamlyn Lyman was recently named a 2015 Arkansas “Star of Life”; Shamlyn serves as Claims Specialist, Dispatcher, and EMT with Vital Link. The “Stars of Life” program is a special event conducted by the Arkansas Ambulance Association in cooperation with the American Ambulance Association. On Wednesday, March 11, 2015, individuals across the State gathered in Little Rock for a day of activities recognizing their heroic and commendable actions as part of the emergency medical services (EMS) system. Each “Star” was recognized in a ceremony held at the State Capitol. Honorees and their sponsors spend the day learning more about the state’s EMS system, visiting with key stakeholders such as industry leaders and law makers, and the Stars were honored at a luncheon.
The purpose of the Stars of Life program is to raise awareness as to the value of emergency medical services (EMS) and to educate state leaders and others on the importance of strengthening the public safety net.
Shamlyn began her dedication to EMS eight years ago at Vital Link when she began working as a Dispatcher. Even with the demanding, fast paced environment that one faces in Dispatch, her attention to detail and excellent communication skills proved to be a winning combination for her, as she performed her duties with finesse.
Wanting more from her EMS experience, she soon completed her EMT certification and began to work both in the Clinical and Dispatch Departments. She gives her best to every patient, combining excellent patient care with her kind and compassionate spirit, whether she is performing as a Dispatcher or an EMT.
Shamlyn’s eagerness to learn and grow eventually found her a new role working as a Claims Specialist in the Patient Accounts Department, where she currently works full-time. Her broad experience throughout the company has given her a skillset second to none, giving her the opportunity to see the big picture, from the time the call is taken in Dispatch, to the patient care that is given and documented, and onto coding and submission of insurance claims, following up with insurance companies and patients as needed.
It may seem that Shamlyn has done just about all she can at Vital Link, but she is not finished yet. She will complete Certified Compliance Officer training this spring and will pursue her Paramedic Certification this fall, further enriching herself professionally.
Even though Shamlyn works full-time in Patient Accounts, she is still dedicated to her fellow employees; on any given day, you may find her helping in Dispatch or filling in for another EMT. Her co-workers say that she always has a smile on her face and a positive, ready to work attitude. Shamlyn undoubtedly wants what is best for Vital Link and the community and is dedicated to do her part.
