Barb Cornett Glass Artist Featured at Arkansas Craft Gallery June 16
Glass artist Barb Cornett from Shirley will be the Featured Artist at the Arkansas Craft Gallery June 16 from 10 to 5. She’ll bring new work and describe her art. “Whether creating a humorous piece, a dramatic statement or a huge splash of color, I find working with glass produces fantastic results and hope the folks that view my work think so too.”
Barb was a police officer in a Chicago suburb for 20 years, then retired as an officer of Teamster Local 700 in 2014. She and her husband had a vacation home in Fairfield Bay for 25 years. They began building on their property with the intent of opening a stained glass studio and retail store. In Dec. 2014 they opened BC Stained Glass LLC at 498 Teal Trail near Fairfield Bay. She enjoys having a studio environment for her store where she sells glass and supplies as well as helping customers create their own projects or see how stained glass is made.
A stained glass piece changes with the light throughout the day. “It can evoke an emotion by the color and density of the glass used, a very appealing aspect of the art,” says Barb. Her fused glass art has been a never ending fascination of creating color by combining glasses and using heat to create the feeling of movement.
With no formal art eduction, she began the art of stained glass 15 years ago and fused glass a short time later, taking lessons in Illinois. She continues to stay current with new techniques and bring them back to her customers. She was nominated for the Arkansas Living Treasure Award in 2016 and is a member of the Arkansas Arts Council. Barb participates in art shows throughout the year, in Heber Springs, Fairfield Bay, War Eagle, as well as Scottsdale, Chandler, and Gilbert, Arizona.
As a member of the Arkansas Craft Guild, her work can be seen and purchased at the Arkansas Craft Gallery Tuesday through Saturday from 10 to 5, just off the Square in Mountain View.
