Neale Payne speaker for Hardy History Association Program “History of Rio Vista, Inc.”

Neale Payne will present “History of Rio Vista, Inc.” at the Hardy History Association Program Meeting Thursday, March 3, 2022 at the Hardy Senior Center, 304 Johnston at 6:30p.m. Payne is originally from Payneway, Arkansas and currently resides in Germantown, Tennessee. Payne’s father came to Hardy as a teenager with the Bruner family from Marked Tree in the late 1930’s. His family started renting on Wahpeton in 1950 and eventually bought a cabin in Rio Vista. He has not missed a summer in Hardy since. Payne recalls growing up in the 1950’s spending a lot of time in Hardy during the summers and hunting here in the winters. One memorable event he recalls about his time in Hardy is that in about 1958, he and fellow Rio Vista friend, Rusty Clawson, turned over a ski-boat downstream from the old bridge on the Spring River in Hardy. Payne attended Kemper Military School in Booneville, MO and the University of Arkansas. He retired from Cleo Wrap, a manufacturer of Christmas paper, in 2009. He and his wife Ann still own the family’s Rio Vista cabin. We invite anyone interested in the history of Hardy, the Spring River, and surrounding area to join us for topics of interest at each monthly meeting.  For more information, call 870-847-5273 or email HardyHistoryAssociation@gmail.com.
