The Calico Rock Museum & Visitor Center is pleased to announce details on the upcoming expansion plans.  The museum is acquiring two historic buildings that join the Tomlinson Art & Science Center.  The three buildings will be joined together.  The art, science and history museums will be under one roof.
The museum has completed the purchase of what most folks in the community refer to as the Cheney’s Department Store Building.  It was originally the Hayden Store.  This building will become the entrance to the museum.  Upon entering, guests will be presented with an expanded Artisan Gift Shop and Visitor Center.  This floor will also contain the Archives and Library.  In addition to being a great research location, the Library will be a board room and conference room.
Guests will then be directed into the current Wagon Wheel Antiques building to begin their museum tour.  The building will also contain a classroom and Expo Center.  A ramp will allow guests to enter the Peppersauce Level where the history museum will be located.  All of the exhibits will be interactive.  It will also join guests with the science center and then direct them back to the Main Street Level for the art center.
The hope is to open the expanded Art Center, classroom, Artisan Gift Shop, Visitor Center, and Archives in March 2020, depending on funding and construction work.  If this goal is achieved, the Peppersauce Level would be completed and history museum opened in June 2020.
In order to start this work, the museum needs to raise $20,000 to replace support beams, restore the roof, and install insulation.  North Arkansas Electric has helped with this project by donating the beams.  “This will save us about $6,000 but there is still a lot to be done with this part of the project,” noted Wayne Wood the museum vice chair and construction manager.
The museum is seeking donations now to start this work so they can stay on schedule.  Help us “Repair the Roof” by donating today.  “We have a very generous community that comes together when there is a need.  We are calling on everyone that is willing to help us.  The museum has been a great asset to the community and we want to keep that progress growing,”  Wayne added.
