Museum to Host Fall Family Day

Old Independence Regional Museum is celebrating the arrival of fall with its annual Fall Family Day to be held Saturday, October 19, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on the museum grounds. On Family Day, admission to the museum and its craft and demonstration offerings is free and open to the public.

A variety of crafts and demonstrations will offer children of all ages a hands-on learning experience. With a nod to the changing season, children will have the opportunity to fashion leather leaf pendants and pinecone spiders. Cooler evenings lend themselves to a good book, so patrons are invited to make old-fashioned yarn pompom bookmarks and shadow puppets. Certain to be a favorite craft will be fashioning “log cabins” from pretzels and icing! People of all ages will enjoy Dutch-oven cooking demonstrations and doing laundry using a washboard and wringer. Visitors can work their way through the museum exhibits and find still more craft projects!

“We want families to enjoy exploring the museum together while creating a variety of projects to take home with them,” stated Terri Crawford, Humanities Educator. The gift shop, stocked with items from local artists, authors, and crafters, will also be open to the public.

The museum is open Tuesday-Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission is $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for seniors, veterans and students, and $2.00 for children 6-12. Admission for children 5 and under is free. The museum is located at 380 South 9th Street, between Boswell and Vine Streets in Batesville.
