June Events at Powhatan Historic State Park including Father’s Day Fun

Cane Pole Fishing
June 16, 2018
9am-12pm
Free
Is there any activity that makes more father-child memories than fishing? Join the park interpreter June 16 from 9am-12pm for a morning of old fashioned cane pole fishing. For generations, families have fished the Black River at Powhatan with simple cane poles and line. Be a part of this long tradition and see what the Black River might have waiting for you.
Cane poles, tackle and bait will be provided but supplies are limited. Participants can arrive throughout the morning. All participants most follow fishing regulations. Participants over 16 must have a valid Arkansas fishing license. Meet at the Black River picnic area.
Powhatan’s Pastime: Historic Baseball
June 16, 2018
1:15-3:00pm
Free
Spend Father’s Day weekend engaged in America’s pastime. Join the park interpreter for a look at how the game we all know was played in the 19th century and join in the fun. 19th century baseball is quite a different game from the one we know today.
Meet at the Black River picnic area. We’ll be using historically accurate balls and equipment, which does not include baseball gloves! While the balls are softer, you’re welcome to bring a glove to protect your hand.
