Come be a kid again – with these July 8th workshops at the Arkansas Craft School

Continuing Education Credits available for teachers – Spaces Are Limited!

Hand Building With Clay –

Spark the inner child in you by pinching pots, using coils to build pots or fanciful creatures and slabs to form fine structures. These fundamentals recur throughout the long history of civilizations for useful, playful and spiritual vessels. Instructor David Dahlstedt will introduce participants to basic hand building techniques that can be used with clay and clay-like material. Clay is a great expressive medium that can engage kids across the broad spectrum of ideas, especially when combined with other media. Parents and teachers may then want to pass the fun on to children and students.

Shibori Tie Dye

Explore new ideas for children of all ages.  Shibori is a traditional Japanese dye process using indigo, a rich blue dye. The process uses folds, household objects, and stitches to create beautiful resists.
During this workshop instructor Lane Berg will teach students to use indigo dye, cotton, and household and natural objects, to create one-of-a-kind fabrics that can be used in making clothes, quilts and other crafts. Creating amazing patterns from simple techniques.

Crystal Wire Wrapping

Embrace the Beauty of Nature.
Dating back thousands of years, wire wrapping is one of the first and simplest methods for setting stones in jewelry. Student can bring their own crystals or pick from a selection mined right here in Arkansas. Students will leave with a pendant they have designed and wrapped, as well as the skills to carry on wire wrapping. Instructor Dora Gozalez will teach the basic techniques of wire wrapping crystals in this 3 hour course. This will include the types of tools and their uses, the best types of wire to use, and the wrapping techniques for crystals and stones of all shapes.
