calico_rock_image_asp copyOver the last two days, Calico Rock has continued a 38 year tradition in welcoming the Boy Scouts Canoe Race.  Since 1977, groups of Boy Scouts have been racing down the White River and making Calico Rock one of their checkpoint stops.  This morning, community volunteers led by the 20/20 organization gave them a hearty welcome with cookies and ice water.

The Printing Press Café & Ice Cream Parlor was proud to open early this morning to accommodate the racers and their families.  The Calico Rock Museum & Visitor Center greeted them, provided a cool place to spend a few moments learning about our community, and shared information about our community.
For each of those 38 years, Jim and Billie Clinkingbeard welcomed the racers and this year was no different.  They were on hand at the café to welcome them and share stories and memories.  It was a wonderful time to see them enjoying themselves.
It’s always a pleasure for the museum to continue and honor traditions in service to our community.
Summer Day Camp Next Friday
The museum’s Summer Day Camp, “Life as a Hobo”, will be held next Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  The day camps are free thanks to a generous grant from Entergy Arkansas and lunch is provided for the students by the Printing Press Café & Ice Cream Parlor.
Plans Underway for Information Sign
The Calico Rock Museum & Visitor Center will be converting the old White River Health Care sign on Main Street into a visitor information sign in August and September.  The sign will promote the businesses on Highway 56 for those traveling up Highway 5 toward Norfork and is being sponsored by White River Health Care & Rehab, TJ’s Smokehouse, and Mitchell’s Park Street Pharmacy.  The sign on the way toward Mountain View will promote our Downtown Shopping sponsored by Calico Realty.  There are still two sponsorships available for the sign leading toward Mountain View.  If you are interested, please contact our sponsorship office at 870-373-0083.
The museum and visitor center hope the new sign will help folks traveling along busy Highway 5 to find gas, shopping, lodging, food, and much more in Calico Rock.
