Davidsonville Historic State Park invites you to Spring Break Events in March

 

Davidsonville Historic State Park invites you to join us for any and all of the upcoming park Spring Break programs. All Spring Break programs are free and advanced registration for some of these events is required. Please call (870-892-4708), email (geoff.havens@arkansas.gov), or visit the park to sign up. During Spring Break, come to three or more program activities and earn a Davidsonville Discovered Patch!

All Week Long:
Davidsonville Scavenger Hunts
How well do you know your local state park? Stop by Davidsonville Historic State Park and take part in one, two, or all three of our new challenging scavenger hunts, designed to test your knowledge of the park. Use pictures, written hints, and a keen mind to find your way around and compete for bragging rights of fastest hunter.

Wilderness Explorers Hike, March 21st, 2017
1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Registration Required
Like adventure? Then come to the park and get lost with Park Interpreter Geoffrey while exploring Davidsonville’s wilder side. This hike will take participants off trail and into the woods to gain a better understanding of how the Black River influences the world around it. Dress for the weather and wear good shoes.

You’ve Got Mail! March 22nd, 2017
9-10:30 a.m.
Registration Required
Join Park Interpreter Geoffrey and journey back in time before the days of cell phones, e-mail, type-writers, and ink pens to learn how messages would have been written and sent in Davidsonville’s time. Make your very own message and mail it off to be read by friends and family.

Black Powder Demonstration, March 22nd, 2017
2-2:45 p.m.
Join Arkansas State Park Staff and hear history roar. Learn how Arkansas residents 200 years ago hunted wildlife to provide food for their families and protected themselves while in dangerous situations. Come learn how black powder muskets and cannon were used and see them in operation.

All About Archeology, March 23rd, 2017
1-3 p.m.
Registration Required
Roll up your sleeves and get ready to learn how history is uncovered. Join Park Interpreter Geoffrey for an afternoon of archeological know-how. Learn what archeology is, how dig locations are chosen, get hands on and uncover the mysteries waiting to be found, and put the pieces back together to have an artifact of your own to take home.

Night Hike and Owl Prowl, March 24th, 2017
7:8:30 p.m.
Half the park is after dark. Join Park Interpreter Geoffrey at the Visitor Center for a sunset hike and owl prowl around Davidsonville. Learn about the nocturnal hunters who call the park home, listen to their calls, and perhaps catch a glimpse of an owl making its nightly rounds. Please bring flashlights and wear close-toed shoes.

Dutch Oven Desserts, March 25th, 2017
1-4 p.m.
Registration Required
Join Park Interpreter Geoffrey for an afternoon of delicious dessert creation. Participants will help cook up and enjoy several historic and modern day desserts using cookware and recipes common in Davidsonville’s time. Families and those with kids will get the most out of this interactive and tasty program.

Evening Campground Program, March 25th, 2017
7-8:30 p.m.
Join park staff for an evening program around the campfire. Meet Park Interpreter Geoffrey at the campground for an interactive program on the history of Davidsonville and enjoy some tasty S’mores after the program.
