Main Street Book, Up from the River, for sale Saturday, Dec. 10th

Batesville, my home since 1972, is my home forever, and I am excited and so happy so many volunteers put together this historical story of our town.  It is a special place, indeed.  I worked at the Courthouse on Main Street for 16 years, and was a part of the Main Street History as history was made.  I remember Spit Corner and the men who sat around the courthouse outside and inside on cold days, and I am proud to have worked and lived through that specific time.  Lifelong friends and fond memories I will forever have, and I think everyone needs to buy a copy of this book, to read and to give as gifts!  I am getting mine soon, and I know everyone who contributed to its content and end result, such a fine book!  Salute Batesville Main Street! and everyone who had a part in it!  Ginger Smith

The new history book about Batesville, Arkansas’ historic Main Street is now on sale at the Old Independence Regional Museum in Batesville and also at the Main Street program offices in the Barnett Building. The 135-page history is packed with over 185 vintage photos dating from just after the Civil War until recent times. Seven local historians researched the story of each city block, from State Street to Seventh Street. Everyone who worked on the project was a volunteer. (See web site or FB page for so many who volunteered their time and talents to preserve our great little town of Batesville and its memories.)  The project required over two years.
