There is still time to construct an outhouse racer for those wishing to compete in the 31st Annual Great Arkansas Championship Outhouse Race set for Oct. 31st in Mountain View.
Anyone wishing to enter the outhouse race should complete an application and return it to the Chamber of Commerce office. Entry fee is $40 if returned by Oct. 24th, or $50 on the day of the race.
There is prize money at stake for two divisions: stock class and modified gas class. Stock Class winners receive cash prizes of $225 for first place, $125 for second place, and $75 for third. Modified Class winners will vie for $125, $100, and $75 prizes. In addition, there are gold, silver and bronze toilet seat trophies awaiting the winners.
Additionally, the entry deemed Best Outhouse will win $100, and the Best Dressed Driver and Pushers will win $125.
Check-in and inspection for the outhouse race will begin at 11 a.m. Oct. 31st, followed by a rules meeting at noon, parade of outhouses at 1 p.m., opening ceremonies at 1:15, and the start of the first heat of races at 1:30. Championship races will start as soon as possible after the last elimination heat.
Guidelines for construction of an outhouse in each class are as follows:
Stock Class –
• ¼-inch plywood minimum thickness
• Seatbelt, helmet, goggles required
• Steering system with steering wheel (no ropes)
• Any size wheels
• Pusher bar must extend no more than 14 inches beyond outhouse sides (no exceptions), and pushers must be able to see around outhouse
• No plastic or Styrofoam
• You may decorate outside in any non-offensive manner
Modified Gas Class –
• Wheel base and height unlimited
• Must have four wheels
• Must have steering wheel and steering system (no ropes)
• Pusher bar requirements same as stock class
