2017 Off the Beaten Path Studio Tour September 15-17 (Posted by Ginger Smith)
The Off the Beaten Path Studio Tour is a free self-guided driving tour of the private working studios of artists located within 30 miles of the historic Court House square in Mountain View, Arkansas.Now in its 16th year, the tour will take place on September 15, 16 and 17, 2017. On this special weekend over 30 artists in 27 studios will open their private studios to the public for an up-close and personal look at how and where they create their distinctive pottery, jewelry, painting, photographs, wood, furniture, baskets, and much more. Visitors will have the opportunity to visit with the artists, see the work in progress, and purchase locally produced art and crafts directly from the creators. Studios will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
New this year: The Arkansas Craft School will host an art after hours reception for the Off the Beaten Path Studio Tour artists & guests on Friday evening September 15th from 6:30 to 8 pm. The School is located on the Square at the corner of East Main Street and North Peabody Avenue. The Arkansas Craft Gallery will be open until 8:00 pm on Friday evening as well featuring work in the gallery by Studio Tour Artists.
The tour welcomes 4 new artists in 3 studios this year: Skip and Racheal Matthews, flame painted copper; Barbara Carlson, fiber arts; and Blant Hurt, storyteller and booksmith.
Artists returning to the tour this year are Lane Berg, painting, Linda Rawlings, printmaking and photography, Lorette Babak, painting; Joy Harp, painting; JP Rosenquist, silver jewelry; Ray Warren, metal work; Doris Fountain, primitive folk art; Judi Munn and John Perry, pottery; Jim and Carolyn Cushing, leather, fused glass and painting; Ed and Pam Alexander, photography, garden art and home decor; Tom and Sage Holland, flame-worked glass beads and sculpture; Owen Rein, furniture and baskets; Sue Coon, painting; Mahdee and Peggy Raiees-Dana, woodworking and garden art; Russ and Beverly Wilhite, painting; Charles and Linda Widmer, jewelry; Ann Snyder, painting and collage; Liz and Lewie Lloyd, wood and knives; Yun Kim, painting; Jim Tindall, painting; David and Becki Dahlstedt, pottery; Paul Gillam Jr. and Paul Gillam Sr., woodworking; Maria Smith, flame-worked glass bead jewelry; and Joe Bruhin, wood-fired pottery.
A free printed Guide to Artists’ Studios, containing information about the artists along with directions to each studio,is available at the Arkansas Craft School, the Arkansas Craft Gallery and the Chamber of Commerce office in Mountain View; at the visitor center in Calico Rock; at the Baxter County Library in Mountain Home and at the Chambers of Commerce in Batesville and Clinton, as well as the Clinton Public Library, and the Fairfield Bay Community Center.
