The 2013 Fulton County Fair will be held August 12-17 in Salem, Arkansas. Farm Fresh Family Fun is the theme of the 6-day event that offers fun and education for everyone.
Creative Arts exhibits will check in before the fair opens and will be accepted on Friday, August 9th from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. There will be an alternate check-in time for baked items, flowers and horticulture exhibits on Monday, August 12 from 8:15 to 9:30 a.m. so they will be fresh for judging. Only flowers, horticulture, and baked Items will be accepted on Monday. All Creative Arts exhibits will be judged on Monday and the exhibit building will open for public viewing on Tuesday, August 13th at 1:00 p.m.
The fair will open on Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. with three Fulton County Fair Pageants and the Youth Talent Contest in the air-conditioned Theater Building. A new Young Miss Fair Queen, Junior Fair Queen and Fulton County Fair Queen will be crowned. Come out and support your favorite contestant as they competes for the chance to represent Fulton County at the district and state fairs.
Tuesday is AllSteel, Inc. Day at the Fair and fair officials have three events scheduled for AllSteel Day at the Fair. Fun Time Shows will open the midway at 6:00 p.m. and will run from Tuesday – Saturday with several new attractions. Armbands will be available each night and fair goers can ride for one price from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m.
The annual Fair Horse Show will start at 6:00 pm Tuesday in the Everett Show Arena. A new Horse Show Queen, Junior Queen and Princess will be crowned during the Horse Show. Contact Judy Robbins at 870-458-2020 for information on the Horse Show.
Round Robin Team Roping will be held in the Clayton-Plumlee-Walling Arena at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday night. The entry fee is $100 with a 60% Payback. The roping is limited to 15-Header-15 Healer – Enter one time and capped at #6. Ropers should contact Tyler Jackson at 870-371-0702 to enter and for more information.
The second night of pageants with four divisions for babies will be held Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. in the Theater Building.
Wednesday is First National Banking Co. Day at the Fair and the day will start with a new event, Veterans Day. All veterans are invited to attend a special program planned in their honor at 10:00 a.m. State VFW Commander Gary Wellenley of Rogers will attend and Brigadier General Keith A. Klemmer, Deputy Adjutant General of the Arkansas National Guard, will be the keynote speaker for Veterans Day. FNBC will provide lunch for veterans and their spouses. Livestock, including poultry and rabbits, will check in from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Come out and support our youth and see the results of their hard work during the summer.
Hall Rodeo, LLC returns to the Fulton County Fair with an ACA and IPRA sanctioned rodeo on Wednesday and Thursday nights. Rodeo action will get underway at 8:00 p.m. each night. Thursday is Bank of Salem Day at the Fair and events start with Senior Day. This event is for all seniors, age 60 and older, and is sponsored by the Bank of Salem and White River Area Agency on Aging. Senior Day starts at 10:00 a.m. and will feature free admission, a free lunch, games, golf cart tours of the livestock exhibits, and goodie bags and door prizes from area businesses. The medical community will have health screenings available for those attending.Senior Day will be held in the air-conditioned Hickinbotham-Miller Bldg. and will end at 2:00 pm with a door prize drawing.
Livestock judging will start on Thursday morning with swine judging at 8:00 a.m. Sheep and goat judging and poultry and rabbit judging will also be held on Thursday morning.
The final night of the beauty pageants will start at 7:00 pm. on Thursday with the Little Miss, Little Mister, Petite Miss, and Junior Miss contests for ages 2-10 years of age.
Friday is North Arkansas Electric Cooperative Day at the Fair and will start with beef and dairy cattle judging at 9:00 a.m.
The Fair Junior Ambassadors will have Kid’s Day on Friday and it will start 10:00 a.m. in the back of the Theater Building. Kid’s Day will have games, activity stations, door prizes, a special program, and tours of fair exhibits for pre-school through 3rd grade students. Fulton County’s own singer-songwriter David Lynn Jones will headline the Guiltner Heating and Cooling Concert at the Fulton County Fair on Friday night. The show will start at 7:30 p.m. and is free with a fair admission ticket.
Jones is a country music singer-songwriter who was born in Bexar, AR. Four of his singles have appeared on the Billboard Hot Country Singles and Tracks chart, including “Bonnie Jean (Little Sister)” which peaked at number 10 in 1987. Jones also wrote “Living in the Promiseland,” a number one hit for Willie Nelson. He also wrote the Top 40 hit “Heart Don’t Fail Me Now.”
Playing in the David Lynn Jones band will be his wife Illa, percussion; Jerry Bone bass; Dennis Horton, guitar; and Chuck Young, vocals and guitar. Guiltner Heating and Cooling invites everyone to come out to the fair on Friday night and enjoy a night of good music in air-conditioned comfort in the newly remodeled Theater Building.
Also on Friday night area FFA Chapters will compete for awards in the Fulton County Fair FFA Olympics. The competition will start at 8:00 p.m. in the arena. Trophies will be awarded to the winning chapters and to individual members. FFA chapters who want to compete should contact Rob Long, Heath Shrable or Denny Young.
Saturday is Hill’s Auto Sales Day at the Fair . The Junior Livestock Premium auction will start at 4 p.m. in the Everett Show Arena. 4-H and FFA members from Fulton County will offer poultry, rabbits, goats, market hogs, and calves that the youth have exhibited at the county fair. The sale will be conducted by Perryman & Perryman Auction Company. Business owners and individuals are encouraged to support the youth in their efforts by attending the sale and bidding on these animals. The fair will conclude on Saturday night with the Hill’s Auto Sales and Salem Auto Supply Truck Pull. The Mo-Ark Truck Pulling Association will bring the popular X-Factor Sled to the fair for a sanctioned pull at 7:00 p.m. For more information on the pull call Michael Roork at 870-371-0108.
