The date and time for the star gazing program called “Tour of the Universe” has been changed to October 25th, 2013 starting at 5:30 pm. The weather predicted for the evening of October 4th will be overcast and very poor for viewing the stars. On October 25th, the evening will begin in the courthouse with a presentation “Investigating the Universe” with Dr. Tillman Kennon, Assistant Professor of Science Education from Arkansas State University – Jonesboro. The program will be on the planets and constellations of our universe. After the program at dusk, the star gazing takes place at the park pavilion. Experience the magic of our universe as Dr. Kennon shows you the night sky through the many telescopes that he has set up. Discussions of the history and stories of the constellations will be part of the star gazing. Come along with some questions since Dr. Kennon will answer any queries you may have.

The program is free to the public. Teachers and students are encouraged to attend the program. The courthouse is wheelchair accessible. For more information about the program, please contact Park Interpreter Donna Bentley at Jacksonport State Park, 205 Avenue Street, Newport, AR 72112 or Telephone: (870) 523-2143.
