Enjoy your stay at Jacksonport State Park by attending a few of our scheduled activities. Discover the many wonderfully diverse qualities of Jacksonport by bringing your family, friends and yourself to any of our programs. The activities listed below are free or have a fee if stated. So visit with the park interpreters Donna and Matt to experience the park.
Saturday, March 30
11:00 am-12:00 pm – Easter Egg Hunt – Courtyard. The event is fun for the entire family. Pose for photos with the Easter Bunny and get Easter face(temporary) tattoos. Prizes award for the lucky egg hunters, ages 1-12, who find the prize eggs; there is plenty of candy for every child.
Sunday, March 31
2:30pm – Becoming a Real Soldier – Jacksonport Courthouse. Confederate soldiers had many romantic ideas about war at the start of the Civil War. Learn how and why their views of war changed. Children can dress up in a soldier’s uniform and equipment.
3:30pm- Wooden Toys – Jacksonport Courthouse. Ball and cup, buzz saw, graces and rolling hoops are just some of the toys that were used by pioneer children. Try your hand with these fun toys and learn about the life of a pioneer child.
Friday, April 5
2:30 pm – Guided Costume Tour – Jacksonport Courthouse. Travel back in time to experience the courthouse as it was seen during the 19th century. In the courtroom, discover historical court cases tried at Jacksonport including a murder trial. See how the Civil War affected the town and it residents through first-hand accounts. Your tour guide is dressed in period costume and take you on this special tour through the courthouse as well as the courtyard grounds.
6:30pm-Civil War in Songs-Campground. A musical telling of the Civil War with the songs that were shaped by the period of strife. Covering all the ups and downs of not just famous battles and generals but the everyday citizen that endured the Civil War hardship.
Saturday, April 6
9:00 am – 12:00 pm – Kids’ Fishing Workshop – Visitor Center. The White River is filled with catfish, bass and crappie just waiting to be caught. Learn about the different habitats of the fish, which bait to use, how to tie knots and bait a fishing pole with a park interpreter. Experience the fun and excitement catching the big one while fishing on the river bank and take home a bag of goodies from the Game and Fish Commission. We will provide the fishing poles if you did not have one. Fee is $5 per child. Participants ages 16 and up must have a valid Arkansas fishing license.
6:30pm-Fish ID and Techniques- Campground. A brief overview of the game fish native to the White River Area and the different techniques used to catch them.
Sunday, April 7
2:30 pm – Arkansas Wildlife – Jacksonport Courthouse. Arkansas is home to a group of fascinating fur –bearing animals such as beaver, mink and otter. You can discover their unique behaviors and touch the skins of the animals that live in Jackson County. After the program, you can make a wildlife collage to take home
