Secondhand Street Band bringing New Orleans Street Music to Batesville June 17th! (Posted by Ginger Smith)

BATESVILLE – The Main Street Batesville non-profit organization will present a performance by the Secondhand Street Band at 7 p.m. on June 17 in “The Loft”, an event venue located on the third floor of the historic Barnett Building downtown.

The performance, sponsored by First Community Bank, is the fifth one in Main Street Batesville’s 2017 “Concerts in The Loft” series – a series of free concerts aimed at raising support for Maxfield Park downtown. Donations will be accepted and will go towards the building of the park.

Secondhand Street Band is described as a high-energy and ever-evolving group of street performers from New Orleans’ French Quarter. Established in 2015, the Secondhand Street Band is a collective of musicians from all over the US and abroad who, one way or another, ended up in New Orleans, Louisiana. A collection of locals, transplants, and itinerants, this ensemble performs a concoction of jazz, funk, and other horn-driven musical styles.

According to the band’s website, “the Secondhand Street Band can most often be found making noise and dancing vigorously out on Royal Street in the French Quarter. One block riverside of Bourbon Street, Royal is home to a large number of buskers – a word which here means ‘disillusioned members of society’ – and is a rich ecosystem comprised of musicians, poets, human statues, magicians, panhandlers, debutants, and wise elders.”

With over 40 regular members spanning 6 countries, the group is an ever-changing assortment of performers. Six of the band members will perform at the Main Street Batesville event.

Main Street Batesville is a 501c3 non-profit with the mission of economic revitalization and historic preservation of Batesville’s downtown commercial district. The Loft is located on the 3rd floor, at 267 E. Main Street (parking available in rear of building with ramp and elevator access.)
