Newport Chamber schedules events – From Monster Nights to Movies in the Park
Gränges Monster Fun Nights returns Saturday, August 24, to the Front Street Park with Ellisa Sun on her National Dreamboat Tour. Ellisa has been characterized as a blend of alt-pop, soul and R&B. The show begins at 7:00 p.m. Bring your lawn chair and enjoy the show.
The Artist in U by Unity Health will have a mixed media class for adults on Tuesday, September 3, with artists Dewana and Jacob McIntosh from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.located inside the NEDC building. The Newport Area Chamber of Commerce will host the annual Trashiest Team Clean Up Contest in conjunction with the Great Arkansas Clean Up on Sept. 6-7.Consider forming a team! Teams will be picking up a one-mile stretch of road on either Friday, Sept. 6 or Saturday, Sept. 7.The team that picks up the most trash will receive a trophy and bragging rights as Jackson County’s Trashiest Team! Call the Chamber for an entry form at 523-3618.
The Monster Beats concert returns to the Terry Scoggins Memorial Stage on Saturday, September 7, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. featuring Dillan Cate. Dillan covers both contemporary and classic rock and country along with his original material like “Fuel All the Flames” and “End of the Day”. Thank you to M&P Banking, Insurance and Investments for sponsoring this event. Admission is FREE! In the event of inclement weather, the concert will move to Frankie’s Place, 306 Front Street.
The Bright Star Children’s Theatre will be back in Newport on Tuesday, September 10, thanks to Farmers Electric. The Wizard of Oz begins at 5:30 p.m. with an acting workshop to follow. Everyone is invited to attend the FREE play and workshop located at the Business Resource Center, 201 Hazel Street.
ASU-Newport Movies in the Park will be held Saturday, September 14, featuring Mary Poppins Returns beginning at dusk. Movies are held in the Front Street Park in downtown Newport. In the event of inclement weather, movies will move to the Newport Business Resource Center, 201 Hazel Street.
Lectric Lizz Lottman Band will be performing at the next Arkansas Steel Associates/KASU Monster Groovez Concert on Tuesday, September 17, at the Terry Scoggins Memorial Stage from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Lizz was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010 by the Northwest Arkansas Music Awards organization and has been inducted in to the Arkansas Blues Hall of Fame.
