Calico Rock Museum & Visitor Center Exhibit “Arkansas/Arkansaw: A State and Her Reputation” June 20-July 8 (Posted by Ginger Smith)

The Calico Rock Museum & Visitor Center will be hosting the traveling exhibit, Arkansas/Arkansaw: A State and Her Reputation, in the Murphy Gallery. The exhibit will be on display June 20-July 8. Admission, as always, is free.

The exhibit takes a look at the reputation of the state of Arkansas and has a lot of interesting facts and ideas. Everyone is invited to come by and visit the exhibit.

Our summer educational programs were highly successful. We have several touring exhibits planned for the Murphy Gallery this summer, otherwise we are turning our attention to preparing for the move into the new Art & Science Center.

Speaking of the center, painting the façade is moving along and all of the exterior should be painted very soon. The science center (basement) electrical improvements are completed, the new lighting is installed, and the floor has been painted. Our partners at the Museum of Discovery will be on site this week to help us begin setting up our first science exhibits to prepare for the opening.

The electrical work in the main galleries is nearing completion. The grid for the tin ceiling has been ordered and will be installed soon. Inside the building, we are beginning the finishing touches.

There is still a lot of work to be done, but we are making progress.

Finally, Junior Watts has offered the museum an acetylene generator that will be a welcome addition to our new farming/industry exhibit. The museum is always looking for interesting and different items that tell the story of Calico Rock and her people.

We hope you will take time to visit the Calico Rock Museum & Visitor Center this summer. In the meantime, visit our website:
