All about April at Davidsonville Historic State Park

Springtime means camping here in Arkansas, and there’s no better part of a campout than enjoying delicious food straight out of the oven. Fire up your appetite and join us at the park for a Dutch Oven Cooking Workshop April 14th, from 1:00-4:00p.m. This is a great program for beginning camp cooks looking to get started as well as those seasoned veterans looking for a few new recipes and the chance to try new foods before you’re out in the wilderness. Cost for this three course meal (appetizer, entrée, and dessert) is $20 dollars a person and includes all supplies, a laminated recipe booklet, and instruction. Hungry yet? Call the park to get the menu and sign up today. Children are welcome, but those ages 12 and up will likely have the best time with this program.

Hey teachers! Still in the hunt for a field trip that will let your students get hands on with history, archeology, and geography? Davidsonville invites you to bring your class out for a day of hands on activities, historic games, and other exciting programs that will be sure to engage your students on April 19th or 20th. Space is limited each day, so contact the park early to sign up! Sign-ups are due by April 9th. Need funds for the bus or a substitute teacher? Arkansas State Parks offers field trip grants as well. Contact the park for more information about this simple application process.

Like getting messy and building stuff? Want to learn a skill you can use at home? Roll up your sleeves and join us for an earthen oven workshop April 28th from 9:00am-3:00pm. You’ll learn how to make your very own backyard oven and help the park make one of its own. We’ll utilize sand, clay, straw, and more to create something historic and practical. You’ll go home with the practical skills, instruction guide, and inspiration to make something innovative of your own. Due to the long nature of this program, those ages 16 and up will likely get the most enjoyment out of this program. Cost is $5 and early sign-ups are required.
