HORSESHOE BEND — The Ozark Gateway Tourist Council third annual golf tournament, recently held at the Turkey Mountain Golf Course in Horseshoe Bend, was a huge success, said Cathy Drew, Ozark Gateway’s executive director.
“Not only was it a perfect day weather-wise, especially in August, but we were also able to raise $10,000 for additional tourism promotion for the eight counties in northcentral Arkansas we represent,” Crystal Crow, new region president, said.
“Because of how we structure our payouts to winners, I think this tournament is fast becoming one players like to play in as the odds of winning cash and prizes are really good. This year we had four flights and the third place teams still broke even on their entry fees. That’s an incentive to play,” said Charlie Morris, Ozark Gateway board secretary.

Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Lacy, 34, spent most of her life in the hills of Lawrence County. Today, she lives in Cave City, the home of “World’s Sweetest Watermelons,” in what’s known as the Prince Matlock house. Its former owner helped create what’s known as the Cave Courts where the city’s cave lies above the Crystal River. He fashioned his home out of the same rocks and materials that are found among the cave’s property, and she feels blessed to now be its caretaker for many more years to come.
