Present “Beginner Glass Bead Making” April 13th & “Intermediate/Advanced Bead Making” April 14th and 15th
Learn the basics of Glass Bead Making in the first single day class. This will cover the basic techniques, skills, and safety practices needed to create glass beads.
In the second, two day class, students who have taken the beginning class or have previous experience in bead making are welcomed to expand their skills. There will be plenty of individualized attention as students learn a wide range of techniques. Dot techniques including rosettes and masking dots, stacked or horned dots, feathered, spiraled, or floral dot work. Other techniques deal with stringer control including cased stringers and multiple color ribbon stringers. The list continues with silvered glass, vessel beads, large disks with surface details, fancy fish, face beads, blown bead marbles and more.
Tom and Sage Holland are two of a handful of early American Glass Bead Makers who have been working with the medium since the late 1980’s. Sage began on the west coast of Washington state, while Tom got his start here in Arkansas. They met at an international Bead conference in Washington D.C. and eventually, after continuing to run into each other at other exhibits around the country, decided to join studios and get hitched. Ever since then they’ve been trying to balance working on their art, teaching workshops, writing on glass bead history, building a house, farming, and being a part of the community in Mountain View, AR. Tom and Sage have taught workshops all over the world: on the Italian Island of Murano, in Hamburg, and Istanbul, as well as several here in the states. They enjoy the excitement of travel to new places but they feel their schedule is empty without quality time at home.
