Horseshoe Bend
A Never-Ending Story of a Dream Community
The carefree lifestyle enjoyed by residents and guests of Horseshoe
Bend is unforgettable. One visit may change a family’s outlook
on vacationing, resort living, retirement and the future!
It started as a dream by two brothers almost 50 years ago. They started
with 5,000 magnificent acres of natural beauty in the Ozark foothills.
A major attraction was the free-flowing Strawberry River, which carved
a large loop through the park-like setting. And, thus the name became
Horseshoe Bend.
As the planned community began to take shape, the word went out
and people came. Some were seeking a milder climate, serenity, relaxation
or a place to fish, hunt, play golf, and enjoy nature in complete
freedom.
During the early years, the Bend became known for its great golf
courses, lake and stream fishing, nature walks, shopping center and
churches. As the years rolled along, the community continued to grow.
Hundreds of new homes dotted the wooded hillsides and the peaceful
little town was expanded to 14,000 acres. Without fanfare
or notice, Horseshoe Bend became the largest incorporated city in
Izard County.
Today, the well-planned city boasts recreational lakes, marina,
two championship golf courses, RV park, motel and timeshare accommodations,
fine dining, tennis and bowling, plus full city services, including
an airport. Horseshoe Bend has been honored with the “Arkansas
Safest City” and the “Arkansas Community of Excellence” awards.
Among the landmark attractions is the Hillhigh Hotel and Spa Resort,
located at 900 Fourth Street in Horseshoe Bend. The facility, a part
of Ozark County Resorts, offers 76 deluxe rooms, conference/banquet
facilities, complete health fitness center and spa, indoor pool,
18-hole (par 3) golf course, supper club restaurant (lunch-dinner,
and Sunday brunch)…all overlooking one of the most scenic
views in the Ozarks.
