FOUNDERS DAY/OZARK HELLBENDER FESTIVAL

LECTURE SERIES

SATURDAY, MAY 4    OLD IMPERIAL THEATRE

Early Settlement Period : 1812-1819 (MissouriTerritory)

08:30  Steve Saunders, Powhatan Historic State Park Historian.  Will present his research on the Demun brothers–early French settlers here who were instrumental in Davidsonville being the LawrenceCounty seat and who establish the first grist mill in Arkansas at Demun Mills on Mill Creek in south Pocahontas in 1813.

09:30  Krystal Watson, Interpreter at Davidsonville Historic State Park will present information on the 1815 founding of the town of Davidsonville, information about the site, recent findings, and preparations for the 2015 200th Anniversary of the town’s founding.

10:30  Dr. Lisa Perry will present information on the early records held by NEARA (Northeast Arkansas Regional Archive) at Powhatan including early records related to Randolph County (back to 1802).

1pm  Lynn Morrow, former Director of the Missouri State Archives at the University of Missouri, Columbia will present research on  Daniel Boone and his lifelong association with his African-American slave.

2p,  Kelly Irwin, Arkansas’s State Herpetologist, will present information on the endangered Ozark Hellbender of RandolphCounty.
