Museum to Offer Free Program for Senior Citizens
The staff and volunteers at Old Independence Regional Museum are excited to begin offering free monthly programs for area senior citizens. “We have had several calls recently asking for special programs for seniors, and while we can adapt most of our school programs for any group, we thought it would be fun to start offering a special day and time for programs specifically for our area senior citizens,” commented Amanda Nikkel, Humanities Educator.
The first program will be held on Tuesday, October 29th at 10 a.m. and will have a Halloween theme. Participating seniors will learn a little bit about the history of the Jack o’ Lantern, a tradition started in Ireland and Scotland, and will create a traditional Irish Jack o’ Lantern to take home.
This program is free. Space is limited to 15 participants and reservations are required. Please call the museum at 870-793-2121 to reserve your space!

Old Independence serves a 12-county area: Baxter, Cleburne, Fulton, Independence, Izard, Jackson, Marion, Poinsett, Sharp, Stone, White, and Woodruff. Parts of these present-day counties comprised the original Independence County in 1820s Arkansas territory.
The museum is open Tuesday-Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and from 1:30 to 4 p.m. on Sundays. Regular admission is $3.00 for adults, $2.00 for seniors and $1.00 for children. The museum is located at 380 South 9th street, between Boswell and Vine Streets in Batesville. During your visit, stop by our gift shop.
