JACKSONPORT STATE PARK

Enjoy your stay at Jacksonport State Park by attending a few of our scheduled activities. Discover the many wonderfully diverse qualities of Jacksonport by bringing your family, friends and yourself to any of our programs. The activities listed below are free or have a fee if stated. So visit with the park interpreter Donna to experience the park.

Wednesday, January 1

10:00 am –Bring a Tike and Take a Hike- Tunstall River Walk Trail Head- We will be walking the Historic Tunstall River Walk. The trail runs along the White River and is a beautiful area. This hike is designed for all ages and the area is level and maintained all year round.

2:00 pm – Jacksonport State Park Mighty Hike- Boat Launch Parking Lot –We will be hiking wooded areas where we can observe where the Black River meets the White River. The hike is about 3.2 miles and there will be many breaks during the trip. We will have a great adventure, however, this hike is designed for children 10 years of age and up.

Saturday, January 4

2:30 pm – Wooden Toys – Jacksonport Courthouse. Ball and cup, buzz saw, graces and rolling hoops are just some of the toys that were used by pioneer children. Try your hand with these fun toys and learn about the life of a pioneer child.

Sunday, January 5

2:30 pm – Arkansas Wildlife – Jacksonport Courthouse. Arkansas is home to a group of fascinating fur –bearing animals such as beaver, mink and otter. You can discover their unique lifestyles and behaviors. You can also touch the animal skins, skulls and mounted animals that live in Jackson County. After the program, you can take home a free wildlife coloring book.

Saturday, January 11

2:30pm – Becoming a Real Soldier – Jacksonport Courthouse. Confederate soldiers had many romantic ideas about war at the start of the Civil War. Learn how and why their views of war changed. Children can dress up in a soldier’s uniform and equipment.

Sunday, January 12

2:30 pm – Arkansas Black Bears – Jacksonport Courthouse. Have you ever wondered if there are any black bears in Jackson County? Join the park interpreter today to learn about some of the different characteristics of black bears and some safety tips if you encounter a bear.

Saturday, January 18

9:00 am – 12:00 pm – Pearl Stringing Workshop – Jacksonport Courthouse. Fresh water pearls were once a part of a booming mussel industry in Jackson County. Learn how to make a fresh water pearl necklace at the workshop. The workshop fee includes a pearl necklace to take home. Please make reservation by January 15th . Fee is $25.

Sunday, January 19

Saturday, January 25

9:00 am – 12:00 pm – Soap Making Workshop – Jacksonport Courthouse. Learn to make and take home hand milled scented soaps which can be easily made in your own kitchen. These soaps make great handmade gifts for friends and family. Make reservations by January 22nd. The fee is $20.

Sunday, January 26

2:30 pm – Steamboats of the White River – Jacksonport Courthouse. The steamboat industry was the lifeblood of Jacksonport. These legendary steamships transported people, cotton, and goods from around the world. Join the park interpreter today and listen to the stories of the White River steamboats.
