The Arkansas Craft School’s Sustainability Weekend is proud to present Finnegans Wake in concert, Saturday evening, June 1, 2013, 7:00 pm, at Tomahawk Creek Farm, 543 Cochran Road, just 10 miles south of Mountain View. The band has been preserving traditional musical heritage since their founding in 1973.
Finnegans Wake is a musical ensemble whose repertoire is composed of traditional and contemporary folksongs and dance tunes of America and the British Isles accompanied by an array of instruments including guitars, fiddles, concertina, mandolin, mountain dulcimer, and hurdy-gurdy. Members William Furry, Bill Rintz, and John Van Orman began playing together in Springfield, Illinois during the fall of 1973, and therefore are approaching their 40th anniversary.
William Furry is currently Director of the Illinois State Historical Society, and is the author of The Preacher’s Tale. Bill Rintz is former member of the Allen Street String Band, and for many years was the host of the folk music show, Undercurrents, broadcast on WSSR in Springfield Illinois. John Van Orman is currently instructor of Anthropology, Sociology, and Russian Culture at Ozarka College in Mountain View. He is the winner of two Minnesota Music Academy Awards, for songwriting and for instrumental performance. His songs have been recorded by Bill Hinkley and Judy Larson, and by Boiled in Lead, among others.
