Enjoy your stay at Jacksonport State Park by attending a few of our scheduled activities.  Discover the many wonderfully diverse qualities of Jacksonport by bringing your family, friends and yourself to any of our programs.  The  activities listed below are free or have a fee if stated.  So visit with the park interpreter Matt to experience the park.

 

Saturday, October 4

2 p.m. – 2:45 p.m.

Civil War Weapons
Come see a demonstration in black powder weapons that were used during the Civil War. Join a park interpreter to learn how these weapons were used and fired and more about some of the famous Civil War fighters that used these confederate weapons. Meeting place: Campground
Admission: Free

5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

Civil War Songs
A musical telling of the Civil War with the songs that shaped the period of strife. The program covers all the ups and downs of not just famous battles and generals, but the everyday citizens that endured the Civil War’s hardships. Meeting place: Campground

Sunday, October 5

2 p.m. – 2:45 p.m.

Snakes of the Alluvial Plain
Join a park interpreter and learn about the different snakes that live in the Delta region of Arkansas. Learn about some common misconceptions and possibly even get to see and touch a live snake! Meeting place: Jacksonport Courthouse

Friday, October 10

5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

Nature Hike
Join one of Jacksonport’s interpreters for a moderate nature hike on the Tunstall Riverwalk and learn about the natural surroundings of Jacksonport and some of the ways they have formed the town’s history. Meeting place: Campground

Saturday, October 11

2 p.m. – 2:45 p.m.

Birds of Prey
Explore the super powers of birds of prey and learn how they survive in the wild, and then take a walk to the end of the swim beach to see if there are any around. Meeting place: Campground
Admission: Free

5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

Civil War Medicine
An explanation of how Physicians, Yarb Doctors, and Granny Women treated patients with botanicals found at river’s edge during and after the Civil War. Medicinal principles and uses of common plants will be discussed. Meeting place: Jacksonport Courthouse
